High confidence remains for a widespread hard freeze across western Montana valleys early this week, along with near-freezing temperatures in the lower elevations of north-central Idaho. While Monday morning cloud cover may keep temperatures slightly warmer, Tuesday morning will bring significantly colder low temperatures across the region.
Residents are strongly advised to finalize winterization preparations now. Protective measures should be taken for property, livestock, and frost-sensitive vegetation. Disconnect garden hoses, blow out sprinkler systems, and ensure outdoor animals have warm, dry shelter. Additionally, lingering high-elevation snow will cause travel impacts over mountain passes through early Monday morning—restock winter emergency kits and check MT/ID 511 before traveling. Temperatures are expected to rebound back above average by late week.
