Both Cheyenne and Scottsbluff have an average first freeze date of September 30th, but this can vary from as early as the first week of September, to as late as the last week in October! Laramie typically freezes a bit earlier, with an average date of September 13th. However, the Laramie airport dropped to 31F on Monday, 9/21/26, so the official first freeze this season has already passed. Looking ahead, a warm airmass will keep temperatures above freezing for several more days to come. However, we are watching the potential for a cold front around October 3-5. Currently, areas west of I-25 have a 50 to 80% chance of freezing behind that front, while those to the east have a 20 to 50% chance of a freeze.
